Editing example: Cop stuff

We get police reports, glean the essence, write it up and publish it. Here's an actual example:
Guardrail struck
A car driven by James N. Broyles of Humboldt struck a guard rail while attempting to turn south onto Buckeye from Breckenridge Street on Thursday.
Domestic battery
Samuel Moore was arrested on the 400 block of Eisenhower Dr. Friday for domestic battery and criminal damage to property. He was also detained on three active warrants.
Shoplifters caught
Christian Vannice and Adrienne Thompson were arrested for theft under $1,000 while trying to leave Wal-Mart Friday.
Beer, not water
Allen County and Humboldt officers responding to water balloons being thrown from an overpass north of Humboldt onto U.S. 169 Friday stopped a car with four juveniles being driven by Joshua Huerter, 19, of Chanute.
Huerter was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Ryan Sallee, 19, and Timothy Ingles, 18, both of Chanute, and Hannah Fiene and Angela Marsh, both 15 and of Humboldt, were found to be minors in consumption of alcohol. Several open containers were found in the vehicle.
Officers determined partially full beer cans, not water balloons, were being dropped onto cars on the highway.
Charges of littering, throwing objects onto a roadway and placing objects on a highway have been requested against all suspects.
A Wilson County probation revocation warrant was also served on Ingles.
Reckless driving, DUI
Officers responding to a report of a reckless driver leaving the scene of an accident at the intersection of Cottonwood and Lincoln in Iola Saturday arrested John C. Cleaver for domestic battery, DUI third offense, fleeing an accident, driving while suspended, no liability insurance and reckless driving.
William O. Gay, 33, of LaHarpe, was arrested early Sunday after Justin Mueller reported Gay’s vehicle forced him from U.S. Hwy. 54 east of LaHarpe and caused him to strike a sign, resulting in extensive damage to his vehicle.
Gay was arrested at his home. Requested charges include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving, second offense DUI, not having a driver’s license and additional traffic charges. A Neosho County warrant for failure to appear on DUI charges was also served on Gay.
Property damage
Officers investigating criminal damage to property at 530 S. Kentucky Sunday arrested Allan Burton.
Wire stolen
Wire was stolen form Orscheln’s on Sunday. An investigation continues.
Bad check warrant
Rebekah M. Thummel-Rothrock of Topeka was arrested on a worthless check warrant during a traffic stop at the intersection of Madison and Washington Sunday.
Drug use
Eric W. Trickey, rural Iola, was arrested on suspicion of drug paraphernalia after emergency personnel responded to a reported overdose at 1703 1400 St., four miles north of Iola, on Monday morning. An Allen County deputy found marijuana and paraphernalia relating to marijuana and methamphetimine.
