Parents looking for activities for their children during spring break should check out the Iola Recreation Department’s offerings.
From 12:45 through 5:15 p.m. March 17-19, kids in kindergarten through eighth grade can partake of free coordinated activities at the Riverside Park Recreation Building. The programs require pre-registration. The deadline is this Friday.
On March 17, kids can “Go Green with Grimms, Games and Grub.” The day includes mini-golf, arts and crafts, storytelling and building a recycled materials collage, said Kristy Sutherland. Kids will also have six activity stations to partake of, and exercise opportunities in the gym.
On March 18, coordinated recreation is the game, with dodge ball and kick ball and hoops. Which games get played “depend on how many kids we have,” Sutherland said.
Thursday brings karate, tumbling and Kung-fu Panda. After the work out, participants will be treated to a viewing of the popular animated film. Thursday morning, a supplemental art program, also with the Kung-fu Panda theme, runs from 9 to 11 a.m. Materials are supplied for a $10 fee.
A one-hour program for preschoolers 18 months through five years of age will be held March 17 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Parents or a care-giver must accompany these children. This program is free.
There are no activities the Monday and Friday of break week to accommodate families with long-weekend travel plans, Sutherland said.
