Aug. 15-Barbeque picnic at 6 p.m. at Howard and Connie Reiter's at 28451 SE 300 Road in honor of Marius (a former exchange student) who will be visiting from Germany. Bring snacks, desserts, and lawn chairs. The meat will be supplied. Everybody is welcome.
Aug. 16-Missionaries from Germany, David and Amanda Knapp, will be here to tell about their mission work. Sept. 2-Working Wonders CWC at 7 p.m. at the church. All women are welcome.
Sept. 5-The church will be serving ice cream at 2 p.m. at Colony Day. We would appreciate anyone who has a freezer to bring it full of ice cream to serve.

Library:
At the July 21 meeting of the board it was decided not to remove autographed books or books written by or about local people. The card catalog will continue to be maintained as well as the information on the computer. A catalog card will be reserved for each library book.
Books and movies were counted with results of 5,189 books, 178 DVDs, 374 VHS and 32 Audios. Personnel Policy will be updated soon. New books to be purchased are: Take Two by Karen Kingsbury, Montana Manhunt by Hank J. Kirby, Appaloosa by Robert P Parker, Brimstone by Robert P Parker and new movies "Faith Like Potatoes" and "Twilight."

4-H: The Seekers-not-Slackers 4-H club meeting was held at noon on July 29 at the Anderson County Fair. There were fourteen members and one leader present. Members voted for a $75.00 donation to the Kincaid Fair committee. Members took a tour around the fairgrounds to look at all of the members’ exhibits. Lions: At the Aug. 5 meeting President Kenton King presented Butch Lytle with a certificate for bringing new club member Ron McMullen to join us. Lion Bill Ulrich reported he had new poles for the "Welcome to Colony" sign that was damaged in the last storm that passed through Colony. Gene Anderson was wished a Happy 77th birthday. Fourteen members attended and the United Methodist Women served the supper. The next meeting is Aug. 19.
Around Town: A cookout party was held at Rose and Al Samson’s home to celebrate Rose’s birthday Sunday afternoon. Family members attending were James and Jacob Burcham, Ethel Beckmon, Marcel Church, Robert Van Houden, Iola; Susan Burcham, Danny Abbott, Kara Cunningham, Shay Converse, Adam and Trace Church, Collinsville, Okla., Travis, Kimree and Taegan Brown, Humboldt, Lorila and Baylor, Chanute, Connie and Randy Strickling, Olathe, Billy Beckmon, Florence Knoll, Les and Arlene Gilliland, Colony. Birthday cakes were brought by Rose’s mother, Ethel Beckmon and grandson Jacob. Early morning guests were Shawn, Crystal and Brady Atwood, Iola.
Gareld and Shirley McGhee, Colony, Darren, Cindy and Rochelle McGhee, Westphalia, Duane and Dorothy McGhee, Iola, Braden McGhee, Neosho Falls, Tessa and Austin Louk, Kincaid, attended the O'Dell family reunion in Farmington, Ark the weekend of Aug. 8. Gareld and Shirley stopped in Joplin on Sunday to visit their former minister, Neil and Elaine Francis.
Bill Ulrich is home resting following hospitalization from a spider bite.
Sympathy is expressed to Ruth Caudell at the loss of her sister, Lucille McClanahan, 69, Aug. 4 at Olathe Medical Center. Services were Aug. 8 at Paola, burial in Paola Cemetery.
